JKA Scotland National Championships 2024

After a busy start to the year, 2nd March 2024 was fast in coming around for the Scottish National Championship.

The event that everyone waits for, to show their skills and the hard work that they have put into their training the last year to compete against other members of clubs within JKA Scotland.

Students started arriving from 9am on the day and you could see the excitement with some even going straight onto the tatami mats to practice, it was great to see students from clubs coming together and everyone catching up with friends that they do not see often, with students travelling and attending from all over Scotland.

Everything was ready to go on the morning of the event, with the setup of the hall completed on the Friday night with members supporting.

After a Referee meeting in the morning, eliminations started promptly at 9.30am, with both tatami’s in full swing.

Categories were available for all grades and students to participate, from as young as 5 years old to those entering in the over 40’s categories.  You could see that all competitors wanted to be able to show how well they had been training and what they could do, by challenging themselves on the day. All competitors displayed excellent spirit, friendliness, and respect to each other, with judges staying focused and giving 100% concentration making sure not to miss anything on the mats.

Pushing yourself to step out of your comfort zone to challenge yourself, especially in front of others is never easy, but this helps build confidence and shows what you can do if you push past those barriers, so to all competitors on the day who did, well done, every one of you are winners.

JKA Scotland would like to thank all involved in making the day a success, those who organised everything in the background, who set up/cleared up, referees, table assistants, family, and friends for being there to support, the medics and Dunfermline High School for allowing us to use their venue. Special thanks to all competitors who make the day.

On the day, the spectator entrance donations raised a total of £150.00 which JKA Scotland donated to the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation/MND Charity.
