The JKA Scotland Squad unites dedicated karateka who are ready to challenge themselves and proudly represent Scotland at the highest levels of competition. Throughout the year, our athletes train and compete with focus and determination as they prepare for Japan Karate Association international tournaments.

Every squad member’s journey begins within a JKA Scotland club, where they train consistently, grade, and compete with enthusiasm. This strong foundation in regular club practice develops the power, precision, and discipline that form the core of every successful karateka.

Squad training then builds on this base, providing intensive sessions that focus on both kata and kumite. These sessions are designed to refine technique, improve confidence, and prepare members for the demands of competition. Athletes also take part in tournaments across Scotland and the wider UK, gaining valuable experience and testing their progress.

JKA European Championships 2025

Those who demonstrate dedication, technical ability, and strong spirit may earn selection to represent JKA Scotland at the JKA European and World Championships, where they compete alongside some of the best karate practitioners from around the world.

Squad sessions include both kata and kumite training and are open not only to those seeking selection for the JKA Scotland Team, but also to anyone wishing to gain additional experience or prepare for Dan grading.

All brown belts and Dan grades are welcome to attend. Squad coaches Sensei Gordon Williamson and Sensei James Campbell are always looking for new and developing talent, and club instructors are encouraged to send students to squad sessions ahead of Dan examinations.

If you are interested in joining or learning more about the squad, please speak to your instructor who will advise you accordingly. Squad session details and venue are shown on the JKA Scotland events page and your attendance should be booked via these links.
