On Saturday 26th September, the JKA Scotland East Region Championships took place at Dunfermline High School, bringing together students from clubs across the East Region for a fantastic day of karate.
The atmosphere throughout the day was filled with excitement as students prepared to showcase their skills, challenge themselves, and demonstrate the progress they have made through their training. It was clear to see the dedication, commitment, and hard work that each student has put in over the past year. The standard of performance across all grades and categories was outstanding, making the event a great success.
Everyone who entered the championships should be extremely proud of their achievements. The East Region Championships are about much more than winning medals. They provide an opportunity for students to gain confidence, develop valuable competition experience, and challenge themselves in unfamiliar situations outside of their comfort zones. Stepping onto the competition floor takes courage, and every competitor demonstrated that throughout the day.
For those who achieved medal success, congratulations on your well-deserved accomplishments. Your hard work and determination were evident in your performances. A special mention goes to the best competitors this year: Best Senior: Caitlin Gray, Best Junior: Charlotte Ettles & Referees Choice: Dola Diyaolu.
A special thank you goes to everyone who helped make the day such a success. To all the students, parents, families, and supporters, thank you for your encouragement and enthusiasm throughout the event.
We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Linsey from ABC for providing first aid support throughout the day, and to Helen Paterson for running the administration table so efficiently.
Our gratitude also goes to all the referees and officials whose time, professionalism, and expertise ensured the smooth running of the competition: Susan Campbell, Paola Burrows, Jim Murray, Gordon Williamson, Stan Calder, Alan Bown, David Osborne, and John Lunn.
Finally, thank you to Dunfermline High School for the use of their excellent hall and facilities, which provided the perfect venue for the championships.
Congratulations once again to everyone who took part. The spirit, determination, and sportsmanship shown throughout the day truly reflected the values of JKA karate, and we look forward to seeing everyone continue their development and return even stronger next year.
